History

Since 1889, SLM has existed for the communities of Bermondsey, Southwark and beyond. We believe in bringing about the three R’s…

The South London Mission has existed since 1889, with a vision to serve and journey alongside its local community. Originally founded as part of the local methodist circuit, the mission exists to provide immediate respite where needed, long-term engagement for regeneration, and the innovation for revolution.

As a grassroots organisation, we live and work as part of our community, listening to the needs of those around us and adapting our approach to maximise our impact. Our responsiveness has often enabled us to be the early pioneers of social action in Bermondsey and Southwark. We recognise that the needs of the most vulnerable are urgent and are an attack on human dignity.

We are motivated to respond through the ‘3 R’s’ Respite, Regeneration, and Revolution. These are the pathways to the holistic development of the individual person and their community.
